Malcolm was now into his retirement and Brenda had given up her work due to ill health. Brenda's health problems caused her to become increasingly immobile, making travel and staying away more and more difficult as time went by. Initially, they took short breaks in seaside hotels or visited Brenda's twin sister on the Isle of Wight. Brenda became totally immobile in 2022 from which time no further trips were made away from home.
