Susannah Thorp was born in Oxford on 11 September 1793 and was baptised at St.Mary Magdalene, on 18 September. She was the fifth of the six children of John and Dorothy Thorp. The family were well established in Oxford, and John later served two terms as Mayor.

Susannah married Samuel Shepherd Folker at Oxford by licence on 13 January 1821. They probably moved directly to 136 North Street in Brighton where Samuel had his business.

Samuel William was baptised on 1 December 1821 at Brighton but died on 7 March 1823. Sarah Thorp was born on 6 April 1823 and baptised at Brighton on 21 may but only survived until 12 June. John Ambrose was born on 21 June 1825 but died on 18 November 1825. William Henry was born in Brighton on 30 August 1826 and baptised on 1 September. Maria was born on 13 September 1828 and baptised on 16 September, but she died at the age of 4½ on 22 April 1833. Alfred Hanley was born in Brighton on 28 April 1830.

The family moved to 5 Bridge Street, Westminster where Emma was born on 5 January 1833. However, the family seem not to have stayed there very long, and moved to Oxford where her husband, Samuel, passed away on 5 April 1837.

Susannah remained in Oxford where she had grown up. She and her daughter Emma went to live with her widowed brother William at 10 Holywell Street and the census of 1851 gave her occupation as Proprieter of Houses. The census of 1861 shows that they had all moved to 92 Holywell Street. Susannah's brother passed away in 1869 after which she and Emma were living by themselves at 3 Wellington Street in Oxford as shown in the census of 1871.

Susannah was living at Beaumont Street in Oxford when she died on 11 February 1875 at the age of 81. She was buried at the parish church at Summertown in Oxford on 16 February and her Will was proved on 3 April 1875.
