The theatre
The theatre saw a good bit of use each term with regular films, some lectures, the annual school play and other entertainment such as house plays. The schedule was published in the School List each term.
On film nights, boys would assemble in the corridor past the Master's Common Room. They would line up on each side and could take any place in the line so a so as to sit with friends. The line would be casually supervised by prefects. When the theatre was ready to be opened, the prefect of theatre would by standing by the entrance and call the line forward by shouting "Close up". The prefect at the head of the line would beckon the boys forward then intermittently stop the line to allow the theatre to fill. Boys could choose thier own seats. The main feature was usually a fairly recent production and would be preceded by a cartoon which always went down well.
As a member of the Choral Society, Malcolm sang a tenor part in a performance of The Revenge. That has been noted here but his recollection could not recall if it was performed in the theatre of in the music school.
As a School Prefect in his last term, Malcolm was appointed as Prefect of Theatre which proved to be purely a nominal title apart from supervising access on film nights.
