Malcolm's wife Brenda had been due to accompany him to this reunion lunch on 17 May but was not well enough to travel when the time came so he went by himself. It was a pleasant event but he did not find anyone else from his era to share reminiscences.

However, Malcolm was able to make another contact whilst in Worksop. As part of his research to add detail to the biography he was writing, he had made contact with Derek Hopkinson, son of the proprieter of Hoppy's Taxis who used to ferry Malcolm and his brother to and from school each term. Malcolm had found Derek by writing to the Worksop Guardian newspaper and now had arranged for Malcolm to visit. He was made most welcome and he immediately got on with Derek and his wife as if they were old friends. It transpired that Derek may well have been the driver on occasions when Malcolm was taken by taxi.
