Schooldays of Malcolm Archbald SMITH
[Ref. S.1]

Below is a photograph of Hoppys office in Watson Road, Worksop. Sometimes, when Malcolm and his brother were being collected by Mr.Hopkinson, they would be brought back here if there was time to wait for the train. They would be given a cup of tea and made at home, just as if they were members of their family. There was a pool table available in the waiting room for customers to use.
Some sixty years after he left school, Malcolm made enquiries about Hoppy's Taxis through a letter published in the Worksop Guardian newspaper. He received a reply and established contact with Hoppy's son Derek who worked with his father and may have even been the driver when Malcolm was in the taxi. They later met and maintained a good friendship thereafter. Derek had a successful and interesting life and wrote a book called Driven which recounted his experiences.
