Worksop College
School administration
A comprehensive overview of the school together with a good selection of photographs is contained
in the Prospectus brochure dated May 1954. It details the history
of the school and gives information on the many activities which were available.
Clothing had to be provided according to the list provided by the College. Some items could be purchased from the school shop and the cost then invoiced to the parents at the end of each term. When travelling to and from school, clothes were packed into a cabin trunk accordig to a Packing List and, if travelling by train, were usually forwarded. Boys travelling by train were mostly conveyed to and from Worksop station by Hoppy's Taxis. Mr & Mrs Hopkinson were congenial people who always looked out for the boys welfare. The taxi was an enormous Humber saloon which seemed as if it could hold about 20 boys.
The School List, which was published each term, provided detailed information about the structure and running of the school. It included names of all of the masters and boys, their classes and houses, school rules, daily timetable, clubs and societies.
In Malcolm's dormitory, prescribed items for the laundry, dirty or not, had to be left out on a Monday and, if they were not on display, they would be taken from the boy's locker. On one occasion, Malcolm forgot to leave out his white Sunday shirt so it was taken. Unfortunately, he had not removed his cufflinks and the shirt came back without them. His efforts to recover them were met with denials that they were ever in the shirt.
At the end of each term, an invoice would be submitted to each of the parents. The invoice would be for school fees but would include extra tuition such as music, CCF uniform, school shop purchases and school outings. Some of those purchases would be in respect of buying additional uniform when awarded colours. Malcolm had a selection of badges and ties by the time he ended his time at the College.
