Winters Season
Summer days have taken wing
The winters shadows then to bring.
Daytime shorter, darkness long,
The winds that sweep the land are strong.
Creatures bury themselves deep
Thus to spend their winters sleep
And pass away the chilly hours
Ready for the sweet spring flowers.
Leaves from off the trees have blown;
Birds to warmer lands have flown.
All is bleak, forlorn and bare,
For the frost and snow are here.
Early snowflakes fall and settle,
Like roses casting off each petal.
A fluffy blanket o'er the ground,
Cov'ring all that lies around.
Now the clouds roll away,
Darkness breaks out into day;
Icicles glint in the sun
As though a new world had begun.
Pure, fresh and white is the snow
Gilded by the suns bright glow.
A silken sheen, contours smooth,
Across it footprints trail a groove.
Soon the snow will melt away
To reveal the spring array;
Drawing back the silky sheet
The seasons cycle to complete. |
