Thomas George Osment was the youngest of the seven children of John and Ann Osment and was born in Stoke St.Gregory in Somerset on 14 January 1865. The 1871 census shows him living with his parents and sister Charlotte in West Milton, Powerstock, Dorset. In the 1881 census he and his parents are shown as living in Thornford near Sherborne in Dorset and he was working as a general labourer.
On 31 July 1888, Thomas married Elizabeth Honor Gill at All Saints church in Trull, Somerset. The census of 1891 shows Thomas and Elizabeth living at Meare Green in Stoke St.Gregory with their son Clifford who had been born in 1889 and Thomas' widowed father John. Thomas is recorded as being a police constable.
In 1901 the family are living in Heathfield in Stoke St.Gregory. The children are Clifford, Gladys born in 1893, Tom born in 1894 and Leonard born in 1898. Thomas is still a police constable. Daughter Evelyn was born in 1904 with her twin brother Cyril but he died the following year. By 1911 the family were living in Creech St.Michael. Thomas was now retired and receiving a police pension.
The 1939 register shows Thomas and Elizabeth living with son Donald at Turley Cote in Tiverton, Devon. His son Tom and wife Honor are living nearby. Thomas remained living near Tiverton until his death in 1946. His wife Elizabeth survived hime until 1955.
