Jacob Osment was born in Leign, Dorset in 1871. There is no record of him until his marriage to Marttha Toop in Beer Hackett 24 August 1809. Their daughter Charlotte Ann was born in Clifton Maybank, Beer Hackett in 1816 and their son John in 1821.
He recorded in the 1841 census as a farmer living at Trill Farm in Beer Hackett with his wife Martha and their two children. Seth Osment is also living with them but his relationship is not known. Jacob was farming 80 acres and employed one labourer. The farmhouse still exists 180 years later and is a listed building.
Jacob's wife Martha died in 1846. Jacob remained at Trill Farm with his son John who was married by then and had three children. The household also comprised a nurse and two servants.
Jacob passed away at Beer Hackett in about 1854.
