Loopholes should be made if possible diagonally and if straight must be blinded. - If the trenches had been further apart, probably this difficulty would not have been experienced. -
3. The necessity for stringent measures with regard to sanitation. - (The state of the trenches during wet weather, even at the best to say, back and everything should be done to keep them and their surroundings as clean as possible)
4. Men should be given plenty of work to do. The exercise does them good and to a certain extent keeps their feet from being frostbitten. -
5. Some kind of cover for the rifle bolt is absolutely necessary to prevent it from becoming caked with mud & dirt. - We used as far as possible, the lose top used with ???? or an old sock. But this is not enough. The cover should be waterproof and at the same time be easy to take off in asr the rifle is wanted for use. -
