Alice Vose was born in Lathom, Lancashire in 1836, one of the ten children of William and Ann Vose. The
census of 1841 records the family under the name of Voic. They were living in Down Holland, Lathom where Alice's father was a farmer.

The 1851 census shows the family as living on Stand Farm and the name is written as Voce on this occasion. William is farming 96 acres and one young farm labourer is living in the house. By the time the 1861 census was taken, the family had moved to Mill House in Lydiate and William was farming 90 acres and employing two labourers. There were two carters employed and living on the farm as were five of Alice's brothers.

Alice married farmer's son Charles Rimmer at St.Marie's church in Lydiate on 13 June 1865. Alice's brother John and sister Ann were the witnesses. Son Charles was born in 1867 and daughter Elizabeth in 1870. The census of 1871 shows the family living in Hall Lane in Lydiate and Charles farming 40 acres and employing one man who was living in the household as was a female servant.

Daughter Ann was born around 1872, Theresa around 1874 and Mary around 1876. Son William was born around 1878 then daughter Ada around 1880. The family were living in Eager Lane in Lydiate by the time the 1881 census was taken and two servants were part of the household. Charles was farming 45 acres.

Alice died at home in Eugene Lane as a result of heart disease at the age of 51 on 14 April 1887. Her son Charles was present at her death.
