Schooldays of Malcolm Archbald SMITH
[Ref. S.1]
Worksop College
Stage Productions - The Happiest Days of your Life
In this play by John Dighton, Malcolm (in the broad-brimmed hat) played the part of Mrs Sowter, the wife of an
American, and had great difficulty in walking in the high heeled shoes. Mr Sowter was played by William McDowell
who actually was an American and was at Worksop as an exchange student. The headmistress was played by Alan Clark
who became the Art Teacher at Milton Abbas school in Dorset and with whom Malcolm kept in touch for some years.
The Worksopian gazette reviewed the event noting that "Smith added charming poise to a dullish part".
They also published some photos.
At the bottom of these pictures is the programme for the play and there is also a copy which has been signed by the cast.
