Model railways
Verwood station
Malcolm built this model to show at an exhibition in the village in June 1983. It comprised two 8'x 4' boards that linked together so they could be transported. The majority of the buildings were built from scratch using dimenions from old maps and photographs and measurements taken from buildings that still existed. In July the following year it was taken to Hillside School as part of a lesson about the history of the village. It was also included in a two day working exhibition in Christchurch. When the model was scrapped, the station buildings were saved and made into a tableau which is kept in the Heritage Centre in Verwood.
Wimborne station
This was the culmination of an ambition to build a large and interesting layout for which a large shed had first to be constructed. Malcolm had surveyed and measured the station in great detail before it was demolished and also gathered many plans and diagrams.
New Forest Junction
This was a model of a fictitious station based on Southampton but done as an experiment for a possible similar model at a later stage. It was only intended to be temporary and was constructed in the garage at Pine Walk using old doors for the baseboard. The trackwork was salvaged from previous models and the buildings were made from available kits.
Southampton
The final model constructed by Malcolm was a representation of Southampton. It was made on a modulat baseboard which could be dismantled and moved without destroying the trackwork or scenery. Part of the plan was to be able to set the period at a selected date and run trains to a realistic timetable. At present, the model is in the process of construction.
