The family moved in 1961 to "Birch Croft" in Chobham Road, Camberley. This was a truly magnificent house set in generous grounds and backing onto Camberley golf course and cost Archie £8000. It had been designed and built before the second World War by a company called Poole from Hook. It contained a number of traditional architectural features and comprised five bedrooms, two bathrooms and four toilets. Outside in the extensive garden there was a double garage with workshop attached, a heated greenhouse, a cold greenhouse and coldframe. A wooden garden shed was added.
