Austin Maestro City X
Registration number F 115 TLJ
Brenda's sons James and William were old enough to drive when Brenda had this car. By and large they managed very well but there were a couple of notable incidents.
The first was when they had borrowed the car to attend the weekly Air Cadets parade in Fordingbridge. When they got home, they had gone directly to their parents to
announce that "something terrible has happened". It transpired that a stone had kicked up and cracked the rear windscreen so the boys were told not to worry.
On another occasion, James had driven into Southampton with a schoolfriend. They parked by the railway and walked into town. They returned later and just as they were getting into
the car they were pounced on by some plain-clothed police. The car park was notorious for car theft so it was being monitored. James' parents received a phone call asking
for the boys
to be identified before they were allowed to go. Having got over the shock, the boys were amused that the police thought anyone would want to steal an old Austin Maestro.
