Holiday in York in 1974

In late summer, Brenda and Malcolm drove up to York where they stayed in a Bed and Breakfast in the city on the Scarborough. The first Bed and Breakfast Malcolm where Malcolm had enquired was full but the landlady directed him to another nearby. That had a vacancy and they booked in for a couple of days.

Breakfast was entertaining as there was a young couple of Japanese tourists staying there who did not find the English breakfast to their taste. They would not accept the orange juice as it was not from oranges which had been squeezed on the premises. They would not entertain the fried breakfast nor even the toast and marmalade. Malcolm and Brenda got talking to the landlady and were only too pleased to eat the portions shunned by the Japanese. They were also so enthused with the flavour of the marmalade that the landlady gave them some to take home.

That day they were able to walk out and explore the city. Later they took a trip out around the area looking at the countryside and villages.
