Evelyn Osment was born in Creech St.Michael in Somerset in 1904, fifth of the seven children of Thomas and Elizabeth Osment. The 1911 census shows her at home with her family in Creech St.Michael.

Evelyn married Ian Douglas Leavey in the Bradfield registration district in 1927. They raised six children, three girls and three boys, the last two boys being twins.
