William Fifoot and his twin sister Eliza were born in Cardiff in 1827, the first of the seven children of William and Ann Fifoot. They were
baptised at the church St.John and St.Mary in Cardiff on 23 September that year along with their younger sister Sarah. According to the census of 1841, the family were living in the St Mary district of Cardiff in Glamorganshire.

William married Jane Davey in Newport in 1844. Daughter Maria was born the following year, son Charles Athrudst in 1846 and daughter Helen in 1848.

The census of 1851 has not been found. Son Sydney Gustave was born around 1852, Daughter Agnes around 1854, sons William around 1856, Edgar around 1859 and Frank around 1860. When the census was taken in 1861, the family was living at 8 Crichton Street in Cardiff and William's occupation was listed as Shipwright. DaughterClara was born about 1863 and finally, son Arthur around 1867.

By 1871 the family had moved to number 32 in Crighton Street and William had progressed to be a Surveyor of shipping. The 1881 records that they had moved to 60 Partridge Road in Roath and William now titled himself as a Marine Surveyor. In 1891 they were at 45 Inverness Place in Roath, and in 1901 121 Diana Street, also in Roath. William remained a Marine Surveyor.

The death of William was registered in Cardiff in the second quarrter of 1901.
