William Vose was born in 1800 in Scarisbrick, Lancashire, a son of Thomas and Alice Vose. He married Ann Charnock in Ormskirk by licence on 22 November 1832. Son Thomas was born in 1834 and John about 1835. Daughter Alice was born in 1836 then sons William about 1838 and James William about 1840.
Eldest son Thomas died early in 1841. The census of that year records the family under the name of Voic living in Down Holland, Lathom where William was a farmer. A son born in 1842 was given the name of Thomas then Joseph was born in 1843. Daughter Ann was born about 1845 and son Charles in 1846 but died he same year. Daughter Elizabeth was born about 1850. All the children had been born in Lathom.
The 1851 census shows the family as living on Stand Farm and the name is written as Voce on this occasion. William is farming 96 acres and one young farm labourer is living in the house. By the time the 1861 census was taken, the family had moved to Mill House in Lydiate and William was farming 90 acres and employing two labourers. There were two carters employed and living on the farm as were five of William's sons.
The 1871 census records that William and his family were living in Hall Lane in Lydiate and that he was farming 200 acres. He employed one labourer and three farm servants and one general domestic servant. Four of Wiliam's sons also assisted on the farm.
William had been living in Radcliffe when he died on 23 November 1876 aged 79. He was buried at St.Thomas Radcliffe on 20 February 1876. Probate was granted on his Will at Liverpool to his wife Ann and sons Joseph and James.
