Ancestors Profile Index for SWINNERTON

Sarah Ann Swinnerton was born in Liverpool on 19 April 1854, daughter of George and Sarah Swinnerton. The
census of 1861 records her with her parents and five siblings living in Sumner Street in the Scotland Ward of Liverpool. The family had moved to 40 Wilbraham Street by the time the census was taken in 1871 and Sarah Ann is shown as being a milliner.

On 5 December 1872, Sarah Ann married William Cunningham in the parish church of St.Matthew in Liverpool. He was a Scotsman employed as a ship's steward and nearly ten years older than her whilst she was still a minor at the time of the wedding. Son William was born a couple of years later then George about 1877, John about 1879 and Arthur in 1880. The 1881 census shows them living in Heath Villa, Heath Bank Road, Tranmere.

Their son William died in 1889. Sarah Ann and her family have not been found in the 1891 census but in 1901 they were living at 18 Haddon Road, Rock Ferry near Birkenhead. At that time sons John and Arthur were at home as well as daughter Sarah Ann who was aged 19 then. Sarah's husband William is listed as having paralisis but still working as a steward. The census of 1911 shows William as an invalid having had paralisis for 51 years and now no longer working. Son Arthur and daughter Sarah Ann are at home and the census also records that of the five children born to Sarah Ann and William, one had died. There was also a Scottish lodger called William Leslie living with the family.

It is not currently know when Sarah Ann passed away.
