Biography of Frederick SWINNERTON

Frederick Swinnerton was born on 12 June 1843 in at High Offley, Staffordshire, the eldest of the nine children of George and Sarah Swinnerton.
He was baptised on 2 Jul 1843.
The census of 1851 shows the family living at 32 Walnut Street in Liverpool. Frederick now has a sister Mary and brothers Thomas and William. The household also has four lodgers, John Tomlinson, Robert Fraser and Mr and Mrs William Wright, all of whom are workers. By the time the next census was taken in 1861 as his name no longer appears. The family were then living in Sumner Street and Frederick has more siblings being John, Sarah, James and Francis. Sadly William was not there as he had died at the age of eight. Frederick by now was employed as a fitter.
On 24 April 1867, Frederick married Annie Turner at Walton on the Hill parish church. She was also from Everton. Frederick's sister Mary was a witness at the wedding. The registration of a death in the Barton district in 1869 records the death of Ann.
Frederick has not been found in the 1871 census. He next married Jane Ellams at St.Giles Parish Church on 7 August 1970. Prior to their marriage, Frederick had been living in Wilbraham Street and Jane in Regent Road.
Son Thomas was born on 7 November 1871, Frederick George on 2 March 1873, daughter Elizabeth on 27 May 1874 then sons Frederick John on 17 June 1876, Joseph Ellams on 8 May 1877 and George on 20 October 1879. Sadly, only Thomas, Joseph Ellams and George had survived when the census of 1881 was taken By then the family were living at 17 Latham Street in Kirkdale, Liverpool. Frederick's profession was given as being a Foreman in a Sugar Factory. Also in the household was Scottish servant Elizabeth A Baird aged 31.
Son Frederick was born in 1881, daughters Jane Ellams in 1883 and Elizabeth Orrell in 1885, son William around 1887 and daughter Esther Sarah on 3 March 1891. The census of 1891 records the family living at 106 Warbreck Moor in Walton and Frederick's surname was shown as Summerton and his occupation as a Corn and Provender Merchant. The address of 108 Warbreck Moor was vacant at that time. Besides the eight children, the household also supported a general servant called Sarah J Houseman aged 20 from London. According to a piece in the Liverpool Mercury on 7 December 1894, Frederick had stood as a candidate for election for a seat on the St.Peter's Ward of Walton District Council. The result of that election is not known.
The family were still at 108 Warbreck Moor when the census was taken in 1901 although Thomas and George were no longer there. In that census, Frederick's occupation was recorded as retired Mechanical Engineer.
Warbreck Moor was still the family home when Frederick passed away on 12 December 1905. The burial register shows the he was interred in plot 756 in section 2 at Liverpool Cemetery and his occupation was given as Marine Engineer. The Index of Wills shows that he had left £5403 12s 4d. His wife Sarah survived until 1924.
