Photos Story

Malcolm's mother had a Traveller like this but the colour was a slightly darker shade of grey. The car was borrowed by everyone else in the family and it became that she hardly ever saw it and the engine rarely got cold. Malcolm was probably the biggest user of it, principally to visit and take out his girlfriend Brenda who lived in Farnborough.

It was a mechanically simple vehicle and was easy to drive. Malcolm learned to be able to change gear without using the clutch and also how to change down into 1st gear on a steep hill.

It was a very versatile vehicle having a large available space in the back for loads. Probably the heaviest load carried was five 1cwt stone gargoyles collected by Malcolm and his mother from a building demolition site opposite his father's office in the City of London. It was in this car that Malcolm was delivered together with his luggage to Worksop College when he started in September 1954.

When Malcolm's mother decided to buy a new car, this one had completed about 125,000 miles with virtually no mechanical problems. She sold it to Brenda's brother Michael who continued to use it for as many miles again.
