Photos Story

Malcolm had longed for a larger and more powerful car and this fitted the bill when he saw the advert for it in the local newspaper. It was on display at Hucklesbrook Garage outside Fordingbridge and was parked with the passenger side close up to a fence so it was not possible to walk round that side. After he had bought the car he found out why. There was evidence of rust along the bottom of the front passenger door and, of course, that only got worse as time went by.

The car was comfortable and very easy to drive. It was also pretty spacious inside which was an advantage when going on holiday with two growing boys and all their clutter.

One day Malcolm had been working late in his office. He set off home at about 7pm and it was dark. He had just got onto the M27 out of Redbridge and was driving on the inside lane when he was suddenly confronted by a lorry tyre directly in front of him. He had no time to avoid it and it was compressed under the front of the car and broke the radiator. He came to a standstill under the junction roadbridge and knew that the AA depor was accessed from that junction but was unable to get the car off there. Malcolm also could not call his wife as it was before the time of mobile 'phones. The car was towed back to Malcolm's home and left in th #e lane outside and the towtruck could not negotiate the drive with the car on the back. A few days later, a friend of son Willam called in his Range Roaver so Malcolm got him to tow the car into the drive.

As most of the cars that Malcolm purchased were cheap because they were near the end of their life, the same applied to the Rover.
