Malcolm's next bicycle was a brand new Raleigh Roadster just like this, bought for him by his father.
It was well equipped with chain guard, saddle bag, three speed gears, pump and dynamo with battery. Despite this being a fairly heavy bike, Malcolm was able to nip around on it. He and his brother went to Blackbushe airfield one day and raced each other along the main runway. Malcolm's brother Stewart had a lightweight tourer bike and expected to be faster but found that Malcolm could keep up with him. |
