Vehicles driven by Malcolm Archbald SMITH
[Ref. S.1]
Ford Cortina Mk2 1600
After the problems Malcolm and his colleagues had with the underperformance of their 1300cc Cortinas, the company upgraded to 1600cc models and things were much better thereafter. He drove a number of this model but him principal vehicle was like the one shown in the photograph above.
As bafore, Malcolm sometimes had to cover a great number of miles in a day and drive in all conditions. One winter journey to the north west required him to leave early in the morning and, on this occasion, on snow covered roads. He kept his speed up as much as he dared and was doing fine until passing a slight double bend in the road north of Salisbury. The car drifted off line and towards one of the few vehicles that had come towards him on the journey up to that pount. It was a small white van and the driver was bracing himslef for a collision but Malcolm kept his foot down and drifted past without consequence.
