Combined Cadet Force Field Days

Photo Reports

On Field Day, the entire army cadet force would be bused out to a local venue to take part in army exercises. These were supervised by the school officers and some regular soldiers from the Sherwood Foresters regiment. The most memorable part of the day was usually the packed lunches which contained a hard-bolied egg for which the shell would be broken by dropping the egg onto one's boot.

Field Day was usually held each term but the was a cancellation in the Lent term of 1955 due to bad weatyer and the Christmas term of 1957 due to an influenze outbreak.

On one occasion, one of the cadets discharged a blank round from his rifle close to one of the regular soldiers and wounded his arm requiring him to be taken to hospital. There were threats of a possible charge to be faced but none came.

The picture below was taken at one of the annual CCF Field Days in Sherwood Forest. In the picture are Malcolm (extreme left), Brian Prince (sitting facing right) M de Sancha (centre facing), Tony Harris (Rear next to de Sancha) and Parvez Malik (extreme right). Some of those in the photo have signed the front.
