These are some of Malcolm's recollections recorded nearly seventy years after he was at the school.
He could recall his first day in the school which was in a converted Victorian house at the corner of Upper Gordon Road and West Road in Camberley. He was sat at a round table, one of about three, with about six other children and being given colouring exercises but feeling rather bewildered.
One embarrasing moment was when Malcolm urgently needed to go to the toilet but was a fraction too late getting there and consequently wet his shorts. Another time his father was called to the school as a 10/- note had been found which Malcolm had dropped. He had previously found the note at home in a tin put aside by his father by way of savings.
The stage came when Malcolm and three other boys, one of whom was his long-term friend Julian Hereward, were moved up to the main ballet school in Heathcote Road. He can remember being taught how to knit. He was also taking piano lessons and whilst waiting for his teacher to arrive, was confronted by some girls who asked him to play something which caused him severe embarrasment.
