Biography of Malcolm Archbald SMITH
[Ref. S.1]
Malcolm had an interest in aircraft since an early. Specifically, he liked the 'planes that were being developed as a consequence of the invention of the jet engine. He was fascinated by the wide variety of designs produced by different companies, all of whom were competing against each other. Living near Farnborough, Malcolm was able to see many experimental 'planes flying around on test. Also he used to attend the annual Farnborough Air Show with his family.
He started making flying model aircraft as a young boy then, later made static scale models. As an adult, he helped his sons make models and this was often as a time filler whilst away on holiday.
In his later working years, Malcolm started to assemble some Airfix and similar models again, and attempted to make them a higher quality finish thn in hi youger days, and represent the variety of aircraft that he nostalgically remembered.
When moving house after retirement, there was no place for them, so they were just thrown away. Later, he thought that they may have been accepted at Bournemouth Flying Museum as he found that they had a display of such models.
