On 11 August 1884, the family travelled to Pembrokshire for a weeks holiday in a caravan. One of their rest stops on the way down was at Castle Cary railway station where they looked at passing trains for a while. The next stop was at Bath but the location of subsequent stops is not recorded.
The caravan was situated in the grounds of a small farm, all of which was fairly tatty. There were no washing or toilet facilities in the caravan so the family had to walk over to the house for those purposes. One consolation was that there was plenty of hot water for bathing.
The next day the family spent on the beach at Broad Haven which had a nice open stretch of flat sand which was grand for the children. During the day Malcolm walked along the cliffs for a short way to explore. They returned to the same beach the following morning then, in the afternoon, went to explore Little Haven.
On the Tuseday they went to Angle where they spent time on the beach but also took a walk on top of the cliffs to West Angle and back. On the way home they called in at Pembroke. On Wednesday they went to Newgate beach and walked eastwards to Dinas Fach and back. In the evening they visited Johnson railway station to look at the train going to Portsmouth.
The next day they went to Newgate again but walked westwards to Druidston this time. Later in the day they went into Haverford west. On Friday they looked at some railway trains on the way to Burton Ferry and Neyland.
Saturday was the day to come home again but Malcolm took them via the railway scrapyard in Barry to look at old steam engines that were awaiting preservation of acrappage.
