This was a holiday that never took place. The family had arranged to go to Newland Park camping site just outside Charmouth. The day that they went was cold and dull but they continued as planned.
They arrived to find the place very quiet so they were able to select a spot to pitch their tent. As the weather looked full of rain, they chose a place on elevated ground. However, none of it was flat so they had to find the best they could. When Malcolm came to erect the tent, he found that the ground was very stony and he was not able to drive the pegs in properly, in fact, many of them bent over. Nonetheless, they set up camp.
As there was still some of the evening left, Malcolm and Brenda took the children down to the beach at Charmouth. The children were in their waterproof clothing and were allowed to play in the stream that runs into the sea there. Consequently they got wet so there was wet clothing in the tent that night.
The children were excited at being in a tent that night and did not settle quickly. William kept forgetting that he was sleeping on a sunbed and it frequently tipped backwards. He kept chattering then saying 'good night' then going through the same cycle again and again.
It was still wet when the family woke up in the morning and the children got wet through again. Brenda and Malcolm could not see any future in this holiday so they all packed up and went home.
