Holiday in Cornwall in 1988

This holiday was a week in a chalet at Penstowe Park near Kilmington in north Cornwall. The purpose was to have access to a nice beach for the children. The trip down was made on 23 July with a stop at Ham Hill in Somerset where a family of Red Kites were seen patroling up and down.

The beach at Bude was a favourite with the boys as they could go surfing there. Malcolm was interested in the old narrow gauge railway there where sand was taken from the beach for building purposes. James and Malcolm also went on several walks to follow the route of some of the closed railway lines.

The beach at Duckpool was also liked by the wole family where the beach was enjoyed as were walks along the coastal path on the cliffs. A trip was made to Tintagel one day.

In the evenings, the family mostly had fish and chips for supper. These were bought from Kilmington village a few miles away. It always irritated Malcolm that they only cooked the fish to order so there was inevitably a wait at the shop.
