Holiday in Wadebridge, Cornwall in 1984

The family rented a cottage in Wadebridge, Cornwall at the end of August 1984 as a base to tour the area around. The cottage was called Kimberley Cottage and it was located right on the edge of the town and alongside the river Camel. The family travelled down on Saturday 25 August, stopping at Fenny Bridges for a refresher.

On Tuesday, Malcolm took son James to walk part of the route of the former Bodmin and Wadebridge railway. Later in the day, the family visited Daymer Bay and surrounding areas. The following day the family went to Tintagel which William pronounced Tintangel.

On Thursday they went up onto Bodmin Moor and stopped at Stannon Downs ro look at the bronze age stone circle and hut remains. James and william went off exploring and came back with a length of narrow gauge railway line which they thought their father would like to add to his collection of railwayana. The item was duly loaded into the car. On the way back from that day out, they came into a traffic jam entering Wadebridge. As it was downhill, Malcolm turned off the car engine to coast down the hill, forgetting that the brakes and steering were power assisted. Consequently, he had great difficulty keeping the car in line and almost failed to stop behind the car in front. The engine was witched back on immediately.

On Friday, Malcolm and James were walking more of the railway line at Wenfordbridge then the following day it was time to return home. Comfort stops were made at Fenny Bridges and Yeovil Town.
