Holiday in Millendreath, Cornwall in 1983

The family took a holiday in Cornwall in 1983, travelling down on Sunday 28 August stopping for breaks at Honiton, Broadclyst and Dawlish Warren on the way down. At these stops they were able to look at passing trains as well as refresh themselves. They had rented a holiday chalet at Millendreath which is just a short walk east of Looe. The building turned out to be rather delapidated with a bed propped up on a pile of books and ceiling tiles hanging down.

The chalet was right next to the beach and proved ideal for the children as they could play safely there.

The family spent Monday on the beach and cliffs around Millendreath. The next day they went to Bodmin Moor where they explored the old Cheesewring Quarry. On Tuesday, Malcolm went off by himself to photograph the old railway line at Torrington whilst the family enjoyed the beach again. On Wednesday Malcolm joined the family on the beach again.

The next day they all took a train ride from Looe to Penzance and back in the morning then spent the rest of the day on the beach at Millendreath again.

They returned home on Sunday 4 September. They stopped for a picnic in a quiet lane at Feniton and took a walk to look at the Exeter to Salisbury railway line. They also paused at Yeovil Junction station for another refresher.
