The cottage

Apart from decoration, the outside of the cottage remained much as it had been when bought. Malcolm did construct a greenhouse in the corner at the back of the bathroom also placed a precast concrete coal bunker on the concrete slab at the back of the garage. Half barrel tubs were placed each side of the front door and planted up with Geraniums and Lobelia each spring. A Clematis was grown up the front wall. Cotoneaster and a couple of other wall plants were put in along the back of the kitchen.

Viewed from the road, the position of the original gate can be seen. The sapling oak tree was still evident in 2014
and had become a substantial tree. The seed had come from a very old and large oak at the other side of the road
which had been felled to make way for a footpath.

The coal bunker was placed here after originally being built into the bank of the rockery.
The trellis arch was put in place to thwart a nosey neighbour looking in through the back door.

The Clematis can be seen to the left of the porch. On the right is a Berberis being trained out laterally.
Barrels planted with Geraniums and Lobelia are paced under the windows along the front path.
