This is a report that was published in the Camborne and Redruth Packet on 6 October 1971. As in so many newspaper reports, the text is somewhat at odds with the facts, but not badly so in this case.
As this job was the first using pre-fabricated modules of building, Malcolm and the engineer, John Chubb, both attended the site to observe and advise. It soon ran into difficulties as the access was far more restricted than anticipated so a crane was hired in to lift the sections into place. Malcolm and John stayed overnight in a local pub where they were tempted into a drinking game by the landlord. Malcolm was pretty ill that night. The journey home was undertaken in thick fog but Malcolm's recollection is that it was completed at the usual rapid speed of John's driving.
The job had not been finished immediately due to some damage that had to be repaired so the two of them went back the following weekend. Having completed the work they had some spare time so they took a walk along the coastal path around Dodman Point then had a swim. A quieter night was spent in the pub before setting off home the next day.
