Examples of some of the rotted timber.

This is the end of one of the first floor joists which was eroded
by dry rot and obviously not capable of carrying any weight.

This was one of the ground floor joists from the living room.
It displays a colourful array of fungus.

Malcolm found that the ground floor joists had been laid flat side down directly
onto the ground. As the ground was wet, the wood was bound to deteriorate.
