Edith Smith was born in Malt Cottage in the village of Eynsford in Kent on 16 January 1893 and the event was recorded on the Family Register that her parents kept. She was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Smith and had eight surviving siblings, two having died. Her brother Frank was born when she was eighteen months old.
Edith had a short life and suffered from tuberculosis for six months before she died at home at Malt Cottage in Eynsford on 29 June 1896.
