Agnes Mary Smith was born in the village of Eynsford in Kent on 23 October 1879 and the event was recorded on the Family Register that her parents kept. She was the fifth of the eleven children of Thomas and Mary Smith.
The family was increased by a sister and three more brothers by 1888 by which time Agnes developed as swollen stomach which seems not have been diagnosed as anything specific. She endured that for 16 months until it became chronic such that her body could not take it any more. She died at home at Malt Cottage in Eynsford on 30 June 1889 after four days of exhaustion. She had also been suffering with eczema on her scalp.
