Profile | Census | Index for ROBERSON |
Frances Roberson, known as Fanny, was born in 1843 in Sydenham, Kent, daughter and eldest child of Isiah and Mary Roberson. The census of 1851 shows the family living in Upper Sydenham. By 1861, Fanny had left home and was employed as a servant at the home of John and Jane Winter in High Street, Erith, Kent.
Fanny married Henry Thompson Pooley on 23 September 1866 at St.Mary's church in Lewisham. The wedding appears to have been witnessed by friends rather than family. Henry had been living in Liverpool and appears to have gone back there with his new wife. Daughter Fanny Edith was born in 1867 and Mary Lilian in 1870, both in Liverpool. The census of 1871 shows that the family were living at 7 College Street East, Everton, Lancashire.
Son Harry Alfred was born in Liverpool in 1872 but the family had moved back to Lambeth by the time daughter Clara Elizabeth was born in 1879. The 1881 census shows their address as 115 Flaxman Road, Lambeth, Surrey. Daughter Mabel Caroline was born shortly after the census was taken then son William Frederic in 1883.
The electoral register of 1890 lists Henry's address as 26 Landells Road, Dulwich, Surrey and that is confirmed by the census taken the following year. The photo shows Landells Road. The electoral register of 1898 records Henry at 40 Landells Road, however, by 1901 as recorded in the census of that year, the family had moved to 13 Trebor Street in Dulwich. Daughter Clara was married in 1902 and left home.
The electoral register of 1910 gives Henry's address as 76 Harley Road in Harlesden, Middlesex but by 1911 when the census was taken, he and Frances had moved to 30 Fairlight Avenue in Harlesden and were living at the home of John Henry Hitchings and his family.
Henry died in 1915 and it is believed that Frances passed away in the early 1920's.
