Profile Census Index for POOLEY

Henry Thompson Pooley was born in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire in 1844, the first born of the six children of Henry and Elizabeth Pooley. The census of 1851 shows that thr family had moved to Peterborough and were living in Albert Place. By 1961 the family were living in Liverpool and were resident at 4 St.Domingo Road in Everton and Henry was employed as a joiner.

Henry married Frances Roberson of Charles Place in Lewisham on 23 September 1866 at St.Mary's church in Lewisham. The wedding appears to have been witnessed by friends rather than family. Henry had given his place of residence rather broadly as the village, Lewisham. Daughter Fanny Edith was born in 1867 and Mary Lilian in 1870, both in Liverpool. The census of 1871 shows that the family were living at 7 College Street East, Everton, Lancashire so it seems that Henry had gone down to London especially to marry Frances.

Son Harry Alfred was born in Liverpool in 1872 but the family had moved back to Lambeth by the time daughter Clara Elizabeth was born in 1879. The 1881 census shows their address as 115 Flaxman Road, Lambeth, Surrey. Daughter Mabel Caroline was born shortly after the census was taken then son William Frederic in 1883.

The electoral register of 1890 lists Henry's address as 26 Landells Road, Dulwich, Surrey and that is confirmed by the census taken the following year. The photo shows Landells Road. The electoral register of 1898 records Henry at 40 Landells Road, however, by 1901 as recorded in the census of that year, the family had moved to 13 Trebor Street in Dulwich. Daughter Clara was married in 1902 and left home.

The electoral register of 1910 gives Henry's address as 76 Harley Road in Harlesden, Middlesex but by 1911 when the census was taken, he and Frances had moved to 30 Fairlight Avenue in Harlesden and were living at the home of John Henry Hitchings and his family. Henry's occupation remained that of a joiner.

Henry died in 1915 and the event was registered in the Edmonton district. It is believed that Frances passed away in the early 1920's.
