Chart | Descendancy | Index of names |
My connection to the Podbury name starts in Aylsebeare in Devon with the birth of a boy around 1783. He married Mary of Bowde around 1807 and they were living in Harpford in 1831 when their son James was born.

James Podbury was an agricultural labourer in and around Harpford. He married Elizabeth Harding of Sidbury around 1852 and they lived in that area until his death in 1857. They had two sons, John Henry born in 1854 and Thomas Augustus born in 1855. Elizabeth moved to Streatham in London with other members of her family after James died.

Thomas Augustus Podbury also moved to South London where he was engaged as a clerk. He married Louisa Bugler in 1878. She was a daughter of George and Caroline Bugler who lived in Westminster. They had three children, Louisa Augusta, Ernest John and Maud Alice. Thomas died in 1886 when they were living in Camberwell. Louisa was living with her sister Ellen in Brentford when she passed away in 1919.

Ernest John Podbury also attended the London Orphan Asylum in Watford before becoming a drapers clerk for Marshall & Snelgrove in Oxford Street, London. He married Ethel Frances Laurent in Paddington in 1908. She originated from South Africa and they had son Reginald Ernest who was born in Chiswick the following year. In 1911 Ernest was living alone in Ilford Essex, the whereabouts of his wife being unknown at that time or afterwards. It seems he was living in Scotland around 1923 and thereafter nothing is known about him.
