Biography | Holiday index |
This holiday was to be a week of camping at St.Just in Roseland in Cornwall. Brenda and Malcolm arrived in the afternoon of a lovely day and put up their tent. The took a look around before cooking themselves an meal and going to bed. A breeze came up and gradually began to increase as the evening progressed. By late evening, it was raining and it became heavier as the wind grew to a great strength. By midnight, Malcolm retired to the safety of the car but Brenda stubbornly insisted on remaining in the tent. Shortly before midnight, the tent blew away leaving Brenda and the contents of the tent out in the wet. Brenda got into the car whilst Malcolm went to retrieve the tent which was only stopped by being snagged on a barbed wire fence. Early in the morning they set off for home despite Brenda suggesting they dry at a laundry the tent and remain there. They stopped for breakfast at a Little Chef just outside Exeter before completing their journey home.
The tent was torn and sodden. It took some days to dry it out after which Malcolm repaired the holes then gave it a coat of waterproofing. The weather improved and their optomism returned so Malcolm and Brenda decided to go back down into Cornwall and enjoyed a pleasant and uneventful holiday.
