Not much of this holiday can be remembered at the time of writing, fifty years after the event.

Malcolm had driven Brenda up in a hired Ford Zephyr car, entering Scotland on the east side, staying in bed and breakfast which they found on the way. The second night they spent sleeping in the car to save money. They had left the windows slightly open to let in fresh air but it also allowed the midges in and they had a feast. Brenda and Malcolm's eyelids were so swollen that they had trouble opening them.

They then crosed over to the west coast and worked their way up to somewhere north of Fort William before returning by much the same route.
