Brenda's parents wanted to treat her and her sister to a holiday in Italy, having stayed in Alassio themselves recently and thoroughly enjoying it. They also paid for their good friend Susan Selway to accompany them. The journey was made by coach and the driver had not been abroad before so was unfamiliar with the route, getting lost a good few times. The hotel was very basic and backed onto the railway line. One evening the girls were in their room and had a fit of giggles brought on by drinking wine, so much so that another guest came to their door and asked them to quieten down, but that just made them giggle even more.
There were day trips out in the coach to visit places of interest. On one of the day trips he drove up a mountain then had an almighty job turning the coach around. From looking at the photographs, the girls must have taken a change of clothes for each day and, as all three of them are in most of the snaps, they must have been asking passers-by to take the pictures. In the evenings they would go out to watch the families promenading and look out for handsome Italian men.
Whilst in Spotorno, Brenda and Wendy sent a postcard or two to their parents. Brenda also bought a souvenir mug amongst other trinkets to bring home. They spent quite a bit of time around the shops looking for clothes and handbags in particular.
