Holiday in Chale on the Isle of Wight in July 1959

Brenda's father had found an advert in Exchange and Mart for this chalet and thought it would be nice to go to the Isle of Wight as a change from their usual holiday on Hayling Island. The family arrived at the chalet in Chale without Brenda's mother as she had to work another day.

Brother Michael's fiancée Meriel was with them on her first ever holiday away from home and she loved every moment of it. The chalet seemed to be owned by the local vicar but it was atrocious and Brenda's mother was furious when she arrived and saw it and could not understand why the family had not come straight home.

Brenda's mother had brought a letter from Andrew, the boyfriend of Brenda's sister, who had written to say he did not wish to see her anymore. Wendy was completely upset by this and it rather spoiled the holiday for everyone. However, the weather was warm and sunny for the whole time and that was the tonic the family needed.
