Stephen Lovelady was born 0n 6 April 1798 in Ince Blundell, Lancashire, one of the seven children of Richard and Margaret Lovelady.
Stephen married Margaret Woods at St. Peter's church in Liverpool on 25 December 1823. They were the first of two couples married there that day. They had twelve children all born in Ince Blundell. Daughters Mary, born in 1824, and Alice, born in 1833, did not survive but their names were given to siblings born later.
The census of 1841 records the family plus a female servant living in Turnpike Road, Lydiate in Lancashire. Stephen was listed as a Farmer. The next census in 1851 gives the address as High Lane House, Liverpool and Ormskirk Road in Lydiate. Stephen was then farming 79 acres and employing five labourers.
Stephen died in 1860 and his death was registered in the Ormskirk district.
