Sydney was a Freemason, having been introduced by T G Austin who was a neighbour at Brentham
and with whom he played golf. He was formally initiated on 24 November 1929 at Highbury Lodge
(No.2192) where he worked his way up to Worshipful Master. T G Austin became Secretary of that
Lodge.
Menu and toast lists from Masonic dinners at Cafe Royal in 1939 and 1940 lists some names of Masonic Officers.
A photograph shows Sydney and Vera at a Masonic dinner at an unknown location or date.
There is a Certificate with a covering letter from February 1940 acknowledging Sydney's donation to the Royal Masonic Hospital on behalf of his Lodge. The certificate qualified him as a Life Governer of the hospital and also for the Commemorative Jewel.
Sydney attended the Royal Masonic Hospital in Hammersmith (seen in this picture on the left) as a patient late in 1954. After he died early in 1955 his regalia was returned to the lodge at their request.
