Ancestors Profile Index for FOLKER

Percy Newton Folker was born on 25 April 1868 at Market Street in Hanley, Staffordshire. He was the sixth and last of the children of William Henry and Ellen Jane Folker.

The census of 1871 shows the family living at Havelock Place in Shelton, Staffs. Percy was a boarding pupil at Epsom College in 1881 and 1882, the same school that his elder brother Herbert had attended. The census of 1881 lists him at the school which was located in The Parade in Epsom, Surrey.

Percy is not to be found in the census of 1891 and it believed that he was working on the construction of railways in Mexico at that time. However, in 1901 he was shown living at 21 Lincoln Street, Leicester, probably in independent rooms, and as having the occupation of Railway Surveyor.

The1911 census shows Percy living in a ten room house called The Malt House at Green Street Green, Dartford. His occupation was given as Poultry Farmer and he had a fifty year old housekeeper called Catherine Eke.

It was not until Percy was aged 44 that he married. His wife was Mary Muriel Bartlett and they were married in her home parish church of Beeston next Mileham in Norfolk on 14 November 1912. Muriel was 12 years younger than him and he was descibed as a gentleman on the certificate.

It was said that Percy was a chess champion.

Kelly's Directory of 1916 lists Percy as a private resident living in Mill House.

Son Marcus Bartlett Folker was born on 15 February 1917. Sadly, Percy died shortly afterwards on 27 April 1917. He left a Will in which he was recorded as being a Poultry Farmer of North Elmham, Norfolk. His wife survived until 1969.
