Ancestors Profile Index for FOLKER

Edith Emily Folker was
born on 29 January 1862 at Market Street, Hanley, Staffordshire and was baptised at St.John's church on 2 March. She was the third of the six children of William Henry and Ellen Jane Folker.

The census of 1871 shows the family still living at Havelock Place in Shelton, Staffs. The census of 1881 shows the address as Bedford House in Hanley which was actually the same house. The census of 1891 shows the address as 1 Clarke Street, Hanley which, again, is the same house which was set on the corner of Clarke Street and Havelock Place.

On on 23 January 1896 Edith married Merchants Clerk Alexander John Lodge at Shelton parish church. The census of 1901 shows Edith with her family at 1 Clarke Street, Hanley but she is not evident anywhere in the census of 1911. However, on both of these events, her husband Alexander is shown as living elsewhere, apparently living away to attend to business, having become a branch manager of an insurance company.

Edith died of tuberculosis at The Gables in Barlaston, Staffs on 27 October 1918. Her husband was present at her death. Her will names family and friends to whom she left bequests, amongst whom was her godchild Dorothy Wyburg Bishop, however, that was revoked in a codicil.
