Confederate was an American frigate formerly called U.S.S.Confederacy
The ship was built in Chatham, Connecticut and launched on 7 November 1778. It was captured by the British and was of
special interest to British naval personnel due to the unusual lines of the hull as seen in the lower picture which shows the drawings made by
Marine Architects upon the ship's return. It entered service with the Royal Navy as a fifth rate ship on 8 May 1781, surviving until 1782 when it was broken up.
